Patricia Wahle's Dancer SurveyHere's what everybody said. My apologies for any time I misinterpreted some's handwriting or sentence fragments. All typos are my own. I didn't record the information about occupation and other interests and places danced, because those responses were in general too long for me to enter all the information that I received from the hand-written surveys. :-s I tried to include some statistical information like age, gender, single or married, whether or not they have kids in the house, and what level they dance. The people are sort of listed in categories by age. I kept the Nebraskans and the internetters in two separate groups. I'd like you to meet some of my friends:A lady who is 28 completed my survey at a mainstream dance. She said she started dancing when she was 6 because her dad was a caller and she liked music. Her dancing activity slowed down quite a bit in high school and college because of marching band, but she came back when she graduated. She now dances about once or twice a week because it's fun and she likes to see friends and get exercise. The music and dancing also make square dancing fun for her. She is single. Another lady who is 31 and completed the survey at a mainstream dance has just recently started dancing. She danced before and started again when she found a new club. Another particularly young gentleman filled out a survey for me at a mainstream dance. I couldn't quite make out his age. I'll leave his responses as he wrote them. He started dancing last year and dances about 3 times a week. In response to the survey question "Why do you square dance?" he responded because "I wont to" and he says that what makes square dancing fun for him is the "pepolpl". The reason I quoted his responses is because when I read his responses they sounded very familiar. We could dwell on the differences between him and some of the other square dancers, but that leads me to the question, which is more important, what a person feels, or how he spells that? He also likes the "free" state of mind he's in while square dancing, when he doesn't have to worry about what to do next, he just responds to the callers' instructions.
