Split Counter Rotate fraction [A2]:
-
From Parallel Waves, Mini-Wave Columns, or other applicable formations.
Divide the overall formation into two equal-sized sub-formations (e.g.,
from a 2x4, work in each 2x2). Locate the center point of each sub-formation.
Walk forward in an arc for a total of fraction of a circle,
around the flagpole center of the sub-formation,
keeping the same distance from the center of the sub-formation.
If the given fraction is 1/4, Parallel Waves end in Mini-Wave
Columns and vice-versa.
Box Counter Rotate fraction [A2]:
From a 2x2.
Walk forward in an arc for a total of fraction of a circle,
around the flagpole center of the 2x2,
keeping the same distance from the center of the 2x2.
Ends in a 2x2.
注意:
-
The given fraction is almost always 1/4.
-
If no fraction is given, assume 1/4.
-
At A2, Split Counter Rotate is usually only done from a 2x4.
-
From Parallel Waves and Mini-Wave Columns (or a Mini-Wave Box), hold
onto the adjacent dancer and turn your box 1/4 of a Circle (as if a
big hand reached out of the sky, grabbed your box of 4, and turned
it 1/4 in place).
-
Everyone can Roll after a Split Counter Rotate.
-
Some dancers learn this 'cheat' definition: Walk & Turn | Turn & Walk.
This means:
-
Trailers Walk & Turn (Circulate & 1/4 In);
-
Leaders Turn & Walk (1/4 In & Circulate).
This cheat is bad because:
- It only works from a 2x2.
- It allows only some dancers to Roll.
- It does not work if the caller calls 1/2 of a
Counter Rotate 1/4.
This cheat should be avoided. Instead, try to visualize turning your
entire box 1/4.
-
From a 2x2, Leaders remain Leaders, and Trailers remain Trailers.
-
Some dancers visualize facing a different wall for each 1/4 turn.
Others visualize a clock, and face the 3:00, 6:00, 9:00, or 12:00 position.
-
A more technical definition for Split Counter Rotate fraction:
- Split the formation into two equal sub-formations by drawing
an imaginary line bisecting the long axis of the overall formation.
Dancers in each sub-formation walk forward in an arc for a total of
fraction of a circle, around the flagpole center of the sub-formation,
keeping the same distance from the center of their sub-formation. From
Parallel Lines or Columns work in each Box; from Diamonds
work in each Diamond; from a 1 x 8 Line work in each Line.
-
Occasionally, you will be asked to do a Split | Box Counter Rotate
from a formation in which some dancers within the 4-dancer
formation are facing clockwise, and others are facing counter-clockwise,
with respect to the center of the 4-dancer formation (e.g.,
Facing Couples, Back-to-Back Couples, Facing Diamond, or a Wave).
In this case, do your part of the call, passing right shoulders
when necessary.
- Imagine that all dancers in your formation are facing
in whatever direction is necessary so that your entire formation
can be smoothly turned the given fraction.
- From Facing Couples, a Box Counter Rotate 1/4 is like a
(Box) Pass In.
- From Back-to-Back Couples, a Box Counter Rotate 1/4 is
like a Partner Tag, except that everyone can Roll after
a Box Counter Rotate 1/4.

- For Split Counter Rotate 1/2, find the center of your 4-dancer formation, then
Counter Rotate 1/2 around that center point. From the starting
formation shown above, this is danced like (each side) 'Ends Trade, Centers Trade'.
- For Split Counter Rotate 1/4 Twice, do a Split Counter Rotate 1/4
(to end in Parallel Waves); now re-evaluate (divide the 2x4 formation
into two 2x2 formations); (working in your 2x2) Split Counter Rotate 1/4.

Counter Rotate fraction [C1] (Lee Kopman 1973):
From applicable formations.
Walk forward in an arc, for a total of fraction of a
circle, around the flagpole center of the set, keeping the
same distance from the center of the set.
Lickety Split [C3B] (Lee Kopman):
From an applicable 2 x 4.
Ends Split Circulate as Centers Split Counter Rotate 1/4.
Ends in a 2 x 4.
Tickle [C4]:
From applicable formations.
Hinge; Split Counter Rotate 1/4.
