The Getin/Getout - Find text function box is invoked from the CSDS main menu via 'Getin/Getut | Find text'.

This screen is applicable to getin/getout databases or the sequence databases, and allows you to search for a text string within one or more databases.

You have the option of either pausing after each match is found (in which case you may edit the record if desired). Otherwise, after completing the search, the displayed results can be saved or printed.

The screen consists of several parts: 1) The Search (upper L-H corner) specifies which databases are to be searched • A ll databases searches all databases. A Start Database and a Start index within that database must be specified. After the start database has been searched, the next database on the database list will have all it's records searched. Note that this option doesn't search all databases: it just starts at the given database and index (if you want to search all databases, start at the first database and use a start index of 1). • I ndividual database searches only an individual database. The Start index and End index must also be specified. Pause after each match, when selected, pauses the search after each match is found, and displays the text of that record. You may then edit the record, find the next record, or abort the search. • Create output file outputs all matches to a selected output file. This output file can be deleted, viewed, or printed. Pause after each match is the interactive mode (you decide what to do with each record as it is found); Create output file is the automatic mode (go get a cup of tea!). 5) The Match found in - (line N) (L-H side of screen) shows the name of the database, the record number and the line number of the current match. 6) Immediately below the Match found line is the text in which the match was found, and immediately below that is a large text box showing the database and record index on line 1 followed by the entire text of the record. 7) The Results frame (R-H side of screen) shows the results of the search. • Database is the current database being searched. • Index is the current record number within the current database. • # of matches is the total number of matches found. Some records may have more than one match. • # of recs matched is the number of records in which at least one match was found. • # of recs searched is the number of records searched. Find next (F3) restarts the search to find the next matching record. This option is only available if Pause after each match was selected. Edit record edits the current record. See Section 3.1 (if the record is a getin/getout), or Section 7.3 (if the record is a sequence). This option is only available if Pause after each match was selected. Abort search prompts for confirmation and then aborts the search process. 28 2) The current time of day is displayed in the upper R-H corner. 3) F ind What (upper R-H corner) is the text string to search for. The search is case-independent. 4) The Options frame specifies the action to be taken when a match is found.
