Using a smart phone as a barcode scanner
This page describes how to use a smart phone as a barcode scanner.
The scanned barcodes are sent to the rotation program.
This function currently only works with SQROT barcodes with a Global ID.
That is, dancers must be in the
Global Database.
Examples below refer to the
QR and Barcode Scanner App (by GAMMAPLAY).
-
Install a barcode scanning app
Download and install the barcode scanner app (e.g., GAMMAPLAY) onto your smart phone.
-
Configure app to open page at ceder.net when a barcode is scanned
- Via the scanner app menu, select 'Settings'
- Select 'Custom action'
-
For the 'Name' field, enter
Web Rotation
-
For the 'URL' field, enter
https://www.ceder.net/rotation/scan.php?s={code}
- Press the 'Add to' button and select 'Text' and press 'OK'
- Make sure the 'Enable' checkbox is checked
- Press 'OK' to close the settings window
-
Scan a barcode
From the barcode scanning app, select 'Scan' and point the phone camera at the barcode.
After a scan, the following appears...
Press the button to open the page at ceder.net.
-
Select rotation to which to send the barcode
Press the blue button corresponding to the rotation to which to send the barcode.
If the rotation is running with web access, the program will act as if the barcode
was scanned, effectively adding the dancer to the rotation or toggling
their status.
