One master computer and one or more slave computers
can be networked together, to run the rotation program.
Overview
-
One computer is designated as the Master computer.
-
The Master computer has access to all functions within the program.
-
Only the Master computer may generate a tip.
-
One or more computers may be designated as Slave computers.
-
Slave computers can add dancers, change their attributes, and remove
dancers from the rotation.
-
Slave computers can not generate a tip or similar functions.
-
Slave computers automatically display tip generation results.
-
Each computer must be visible on the Network.
To make a computer visible:
- Windows Control Panel
- Settings | Network & Internet
- Network and Sharing Center
- Change advanced sharing settings
- Private (current profile)
- Turn on network discovery
- Turn on file and printer sharing
- You may need to press a button to 'Save changes'
At one point, I had to
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings
All Networks | Turn off password protected sharing
Master Configuration
-
Start the Square Rotation Program (SQROT) on the Master computer.
-
On the SQROT main menu, select 'Tools | Master mode'.
A confirmation prompt appears:
-
If the database and rotation are correct, press the 'OK' button.
-
Otherwise, press the 'Cancel' button, then select the desired
database and rotation from the main window, and try again.
Slave Configuration
-
Open a Windows File Explorer, select 'Network'.
-
Click on the master computer name and log in.
-
On SQROT main menu, select 'Tools | Slave mode'.
Enter the shared network folder on the master computer then press the 'OK' button.
Implementation
-
All computers can add dancers, change their attributes, and remove dancers from the rotation.
-
When a change is made on one computer, the change will also occur on the other
computers -- this may take a second or two. Updates are also sent to the
Web App if
'Remote Access' is on.
-
The Master computer can generate the next tip, or choose to display an 'Open Tip' message.
The Slave computers will display the appropriate window.
-
When the Master computer closes the rotation program, so will the Slave computers.
