Ends in a Single Completed Double Pass Thru formation.

Dixie Chain

Definition:

From facing couples or two single file lines of two facing each other (as in each side of a double pass thru formation): Lead dancers or right side dancers give a right to opposite and pull by. Give a left to the next and pull by. Those now meeting give a right hand pull by. Finishes in two single file lines of two back to back to take the next call.

Date written might be wrong. Jim Mayo thinks 1956. Verbatim note from Jim:

As you know I have been involved with the square dance history project whose goal is to show the history in moving images. Over the past few years I have become increasingly convinced that there was a mistake in dating the origin of the call Dixie Chain. Jay King shows it as 1952. I believe he got most of his information about the creation of early calls from the book Instant Hash. The information there was probably from Rickey Holden's knowledge. Instant Hash shows the date for Dixie Chain as 1956. That, also, is the first time the term shows up in either American Square Dance or Sets In Order. This leads me to the conclusion that Jay just wrote down the wrong year. Many of us have accepted Jay's book as accurate and, certainly, it mostly is.
