 Square The Barge

Square The Barge

 Swing Chain Thru

Definition:

From two parallel waves or eight chain thru formation: All arm turn half, centers Single Hinge, then the centers in the wave across the set Trade to Single Hinge with the wave end. Finishes in parallel waves. Note: This movement was invented first but was almost immediately overshadowed at workshops by Spin Chain Thru. At the time, the 1/4 turns seemed to happen too quickly. Today, dancers are much more comfortable with 1/4 turns (Single Hinges) than they were then.

 Transfer And ...

All dancers now take the next call. ("Transfer And Cast Off 3/4 then Chain Reaction" would be equivalent to Transaction and Transfer the Action above).

COMMENT: Time will tell.

Transfer And (anything)

 Triple Cross

Definition:

Version #1

From facing pairs: Turn opposite by the right 3/4 and those facing in give a left and pull by to stand beside the ones who did the arm turn. This also has a different interpretation if done from facing lines: Ends Pass Thru and Quarter In. Centers do the above move by swinging 3/4 by the right and those who can giving a left and pulling by. (author unknown)

COMMENT: The basic move is the same as Swing And Cross. Two interpretations of the same call depending upon the starting formation is a drawback to acceptance of any movement.

Version #2

From right hand columns: Six dancers on the diagonal will right hand pull by. The other two dancers stand pat. Finishes in columns with one dancer facing in and three facing out in each column. From facing lines: Right Triple Cross means pull by right hands with the dancer on the right diagonally across. Left Triple Cross means pull by left hands with the dancer on the left diagonally across. Two dancers stand pat in each case. (Lee Kopman and Deuce Williams 1973)
