 Trace X By Y

Definition:

This prefix call establishes a set of 'offset' box-type paths in a 1/4 tag formation in which the dancers work. Center end and adjacent (very center) work in the 'box' spots formed by themselves and the outsides that the end is facing. The outsides work with the center two spots which include the others' i.e. the end that has a back to those outsides and that end's adjacent center. Thus, the end centers move ahead and the outsides follow a back. Centers do the X call, outsides do the Y. If only numbers are used X is the number of Box Circulates the centers do while Y is the number of Box Circulates for the outsides. (Calls such as Trace Chase require appropriate adjustment once concept is understood.)
