- From a promenade or from parallel two-faced lines: From a promenade, the call is "Heads (Sides) Cast a Shadow" and the Head girls will roll back to the girl behind to start a Cast Off. From parallel two-faced lines the call is simply Cast A Shadow and the outside person in the pair facing out rolls back to the outside person in the couple behind to start the Cast Off. The initial Cast Off by the dancer rolling back is a 3/4 Arm Turn. These dancers immediately slide apart. The person adjacent to the dancer who rolled back will follow (shadow) the "roller" about a quarter of the way but in a larger loop. When the Cast Off is finished and the arm turners spread apart, this looping dancer steps between them to become one center of a new wave and standing beside the original adjacent dancer. The other two dancers (facing in) step forward and turn one quarter by adjacent arms, then step straight ahead to take the vacant center position in the new parallel waves. Finishes with parallel waves.
