Profile in Callers and Cuers Chuck and Bobbie Myers truly fulfill all of the requirements in being a square dance caller and wife. Chuck is a USMC veteran and was employed as a civilian logistics system policy and design specialist with the Air Force. Bobbie was a stay at home mom and managed "the family." Together, they raised two sons both of whom also live in the Alabama, Florida area. Their square dance career began when they took lessons for something to do together since it seemed Chuck's work kept him "on the road" a lot. Within 2 months of their graduation they became the president(s) of their square dance club and their interest in the administrative part of the activity began. To try to do something different, they decided to have an amateur caller's night. Chuck and five other members of the club decided to do a singing call. Interestingly, 5 out of the six "amateurs" became either full or part time professionals. All of this happened in 1970 and they have been going on strong ever since. They have been on the staff of some major square dance resorts including Fontana Village, English Mountain, and Copecrest. Bobbie also managed a week-end in Lexington, KY for 18 years. Chuck has recorded for Thunderbird and Dance Ranch labels and has called in 28 states including Hawaii and Alaska. In 1988 they came back to Mobile as retirees. They always knew they would. Chuck is an avid fisherman and even found time to call in several states around Alabama after retiring. He called Mainstream through the Advance program. In 2002, they decided it was time to somewhat reduce their involvement in the activity but they never really left. Chuck still continued to do benefit dances, one night stands if for the purpose of interesting new dancers in the activity, taught new dancer classes and filled in for other callers when an emergency occurred. When the caller who had inherited one of their clubs had a severe health problem, Chuck and Bobbie again went back to calling for the club and traveling on a limited basis. Now, he has virtually retired and only calls to help out on an emergency basis.
