Vera Baerg (February 23, 1912-October 5, 2010)
Vera started square dance calling in the early 50's. It started as a
hobby, calling for square dances at schools. But because of her
beautiful voice and warm personality she soon became one of the most
popular callers in California. She would call for dances with
different square dance clubs at least 3 to 4 nights a week. Jack, her
husband, assisted her by carrying and setting up her sound equipment.
He was a wonderful square dancer and partner. Vera became very popular
and traveled calling in the western United States. As the caller she
even accompanied square dance tours to Mexico, Hawaii and Europe. Vera
was considered one of the top female callers in the U.S. She recorded
several records for MacGregor Label. Vera retired from calling in the
early 70's.
