Harold's Squares Square Dance Club was started in 1955. Harold & Lill Bausch came to Columbus in January and ran an advertisement in the paper asking anyone who was interested to attend. In February another class was started. When the two groups graduated, a club was formed in May 1955. No one knew until later that this was Harold's first try at teaching square dancing.
Harold & Lill managed the first club. The club grew larger and Harold & Lill suggested that the club elect a secretary and treasure to help with the paper work. For over 20 years, Harold & Lill were the club presidents. Harold was the club caller until his death in April, 1998. Lill had passed away in February, 1998. She had been the club's cuer.
The Night Owl Dance was started in 1958. It was held from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. with a breakfast following. Lill had a patent on the Night Owl Badge and Grasshopper Badge. The dance was discontinued after Harold & Lill's deaths.
